The work of the wood team aims to develop the knowledge and promotion of wood as a structural material for the tree as for humans. Four highly interconnected lines of research explore the interfaces of engineering with biology, eco-construction or the humanities: biomechanics of wood formation, with the main theme of the study of pre-stress mechanisms and their biomechanical function; effects of time on behaviour, incorporating delayed behaviour, aging processes and their thermo-hygro-activation; diversity of wood properties, studied through structure-property relationships for the enhancement of biodiversity; use of woods in cultural heritage, through the study of the bill of musical instruments, the conservation of material heritage and handicraft knowledge
